It is a plain area. onion is the major commercial crop there. However, the farmers who had suffered heavy losses due to last year's rains, were expecting profit this time. However, as a result of the central government's increase in the export duty of onion, the price of onion suddenly fell, adding to the farmers' injury. Farmers of Chitradurga district used to sow more than 40 thousand hectares of onion every year. However, due to excessive rain last year, the farmers were in debt without getting any profit. Thus, this time due to late sowing, the farmers of Kotenad have sown only about 20 hectares of onions. At such a time, the central government, which should have encouraged the farmers, has increased the export duty of onion by 40%. As a result, the price of onion in the market has fallen sharply. Farmers get only 10 rupees per kg onion. Thus, onion growers are facing severe hardship due to the declining price of onion day by day. Therefore, they have demanded to reduce the onion export duty and facilitate the farmers.

This time, the yield of sown onions has been stunted due to complete failure of rains. Also, the horticulture department officials are of the opinion that due to the poor quality of the grown onions, they cannot get an appropriate price in the market. The farmers of Chitradurga are already suffering due to drought. At this time, the onion export duty imposed by the central government has caused a big headache. Therefore, the government has to take necessary measures for the benefit of the farmers.
