The combined market valuation of all companies listed on the country's oldest and premier stock exchange BSE crossed the US$ 4 trillion milestone for the first time on Wednesday. The 30-share BSE Sensex started the day on a positive note, rising 305.44 points to 66,479.64 in early trade. People's faith in equities Market capitalization of BSE-listed companies touched ₹3,33,26,881.49 crore in morning trade. At an exchange rate of 83.31, it touched the 4 trillion USD mark. While the BSE benchmark Sensex has gained 5,540.52 points or 9.10 per cent so far this year, the market capitalization (m-cap) of all listed firms on its platform has jumped to around ₹50.81 lakh crore.
The 30-share benchmark touched its all-time high of 67,927.23 on september 15 this year. Other markets worth more than US$4 trillion are the US, China, japan and Hong Kong. On 24 May 2021, the market capitalization of all listed companies on BSE crossed the 3 trillion US dollar mark. The valuation of these companies listed on 28 May 2007 crossed the 1 trillion US dollar mark. The journey from 1 trillion to 1.5 trillion took seven years. This border was crossed on june 6, 2014 i.e. in 2566 days.
The value of its listed mid-cap companies reached 2 trillion on July 10, 2017. It took 1,130 days to reach 2 trillion from the 1.5-trillion level. From there, it took 1,255 days to cross the 2.5-trillion mark on december 16, 2016.
