Reportedly JDU has been in power in bihar for more than 18 years. Excluding the intervening few months i.e. a period of approximately nine months between 20 May 2014 and 22 february 2015, nitish kumar has been the chief minister of bihar since november 2005. Even during the intervening period, the government was of JDU and it was nitish kumar who had decided to make Jitan ram Manjhi the Chief Minister. JDU has been in government for such a long time and nitish kumar is also the Chief Minister. Despite this, bihar is still counted among the most backward states of the country on the path of progress.

Perhaps even though the cause of caste has been so effective in the politics of bihar that the issue of development becomes secondary in every election, yet there is a lot of resentment among the people of the state regarding Nitish Kumar. Even though the people here get entangled in the web of caste equations while voting, they do not hold back in holding nitish kumar responsible for the plight of Bihar. The displeasure of common people towards Nitish can be understood better after visiting different areas of Bihar.

Seeing the way Tejashwi Yadav has rejuvenated his party RJD in bihar in the last four years, a large section of Nitish Kumar's vote bank has now started getting attracted towards RJD. JDU's support base is gradually shrinking in bihar and a major reason for this is the rapid rise of RJD under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav. How much Tejashwi Yadav's politics will increase the pace of development in bihar can be a matter of separate discussion, but in terms of caste equations, the political reality at present is that RJD alone is superior to both bjp and JDU.
