PDP has demanded a humanitarian approach on the issue of water, while the ruling National Conference has supported restarting all stalled projects and stopping the flow of water towards Pakistan.
'Construction of projects stopped in the past must resume'
Tanveer Sadiq, mla and chief spokesperson of the ruling National Conference, said, "The Indus Water Treaty has caused huge damage to our local economy since its inception and when the government of india has suspended the treaty why should we wait. We should start construction of projects that have been stopped in the past so that our population, who have the first right over it, can use it."
Taking a dig at Peoples Democratic party president mehbooba Mufti, who has advocated a more humane approach to the water issue, Tanveer Sadiq defended chief minister Omar Abdullah's tweet on resuming work on the Tulbul barrage on the Wular lake.
'BJP is responsible for our troubles'
Tanveer said the time had come to give the people of kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir their share. "She has been in power with the BJP, which took away our statehood and is responsible for our troubles. It is unfortunate that the former chief minister is worried about every other person instead of her own people," he said. 'Losses should be compensated'
PDP chief spokesperson Iqbal Tramboo said, "Our stand is clear that the Indus Water Treaty is unfair to the people of kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir and the indian government should compensate the people for the losses they have suffered." He said that the decision to stop the water is of the indian government, but we believe that this is also a humanitarian issue and water should not be stopped for the people of Pakistan.
