
The Apache AH-64E helicopter, also known as the 'flying tank', is a state-of-the-art combat helicopter. india purchased 6 Apache helicopters in 2020 under a deal of $ 600 million (about Rs 5,000 crore) with the US. The first consignment of this deal i.e. three helicopters have reached india on 22 July 2025 and will be deployed in Jodhpur. Let us tell you that the indian air Force already has Apache helicopters and now the army will also have these Apache helicopters. The price of one Apache helicopter is being told to be Rs 860 crore.
The biggest feature of the Apache helicopter is its Advanced Target Acquisition System and Pilot Night Vision Sensor (PNVS). This helicopter can lock 128 targets in a minute and is capable of attacking 16 different targets simultaneously. It is equipped with high quality radar and communication systems like Longbow Radar and Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS). It can carry out precise attacks day and night, in all weather conditions, making it a game-changer in the battlefield.
The Apache is fitted with a 30 mm M230 chain gun, which can fire 625 rounds per minute. Apart from this, it is equipped with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, Hydra-70 rockets, and laser-guided missiles, which are capable of destroying tanks, armored vehicles, and bunkers. Its maximum speed is 280-365 km/h, and it can fly for 3.5 hours with a range of about 480-500 km.
On 22 July 2025, these helicopters were formally inducted into the army in Jodhpur. These helicopters will increase India's strike capability manifold on the western border in missions like Operation Sindoor. Their night vision systems and advanced sensors will give the army the power to carry out precise attacks even in the dark of night and complex battlefields.
