ECI–SIR Row: congress Calls review Meeting
🔹 Background
Congress has raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted by the election commission of india (ECI).
The issue has gained urgency following the party’s heavy defeat in the recent bihar elections and allegations of vote-stealing.
Top leaders, including rahul gandhi and mallikarjun Kharge, have already held internal discussions regarding the election results.
🔹 congress review Meeting (18 November)
Congress has scheduled a review meeting on november 18 at Indira Bhawan.
Purpose:
To assess the SIR process across 12 states and union territories.
To analyze reasons behind the poor Bihar election performance.
Key participants expected:
AICC in-charges of the 12 states/UTs
State congress Committee presidents
Congress Legislature party (CLP) leaders
Party general secretaries and secretaries

🔹 bihar election Outcome
The nda secured a historic victory:
NDA: 202 seats
Grand Alliance (including Congress): 35 seats
Congress has publicly questioned the role of the Election Commission in the poll process.
Rahul gandhi described the results as “shocking”, stating the election was not fair from the start.
The congress and the india bloc plan to conduct a detailed review of the results.
🔹 ECI’s SIR Progress Report
The election commission reported on saturday that:
Over 95% of the 59.9 million voters in nine states and three UTs have received voter forms under SIR.
A total of 486.7 million voter forms have been distributed across 12 states/UTs:
Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep
States going to polls in 2026:
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry, Assam
The second phase of SEP (Supplementary Electoral Process) started on november 4 and will run until december 4.
