Tharoor’s Recent Absence

Congress mp Shashi Tharoor missed the congress Lok Sabha MPs’ meeting chaired by rahul gandhi for the third consecutive time.

He shared on X that he was in kolkata to attend:

The wedding of his long-time aide, john Koshy

The birthday celebration of his sister, Smita Tharoor

His post read: “I’m in kolkata today for the wedding of my long-term aide john Koshy, and the birthday of my sister.”

Prior Notice and Other Absences

According to ANI, Tharoor had informed party leadership in advance about his unavailability.

Manish Tiwari, congress mp from Chandigarh, was also absent from the meeting.

Tharoor attended an event hosted by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation in kolkata the previous night.

Clarification on Earlier Meeting Skips

On december 1, Tharoor clarified that he had not deliberately skipped the previous congress strategic group meeting.

He explained he was mid-flight returning from kerala when the meeting occurred.

His comment: “I did not skip it; I was on a plane, coming from Kerala.”

His non-attendance had sparked discussions since that meeting—chaired by sonia Gandhi—focused on planning for the Winter Session.

Missed Meetings Due to Travel and Health

Tharoor had earlier missed the meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue, citing illness.

His office stated he was travelling with his 90-year-old mother on a later flight from kerala, making a timely arrival in delhi impossible.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal also skipped that meeting due to local body election commitments in Kerala.

Internal Reactions and party Speculation

Tharoor recently drew attention for being the only congress leader invited to the President’s state banquet for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera hinted at discomfort, suggesting leaders should question “why the game is being played and why we shouldn’t be part of it.”

Tharoor’s repeated absences have fueled internal speculation and debate within the congress party.
