As per report former india opener gautam gambhir has called ms dhoni a captain who was "lucky" as he had the best team in the world during his captaincy. The cricketer turned politician said that the credit for MS Dhoni's success as the Test captain should solely go to zaheer khan, who is the second-highest wicket-taker for india in the longest format after legendary kapil dev when it comes to pacers. gautam gambhir added that ms dhoni was blessed to have zaheer khan, India's best world-class bowler, according to the former delhi batsman. Gambhir reckoned that former india captain sourav ganguly should be given credit for bringing a player like zaheer khan in the squad.
"The reason dhoni became such a successful captain in test cricket is because of Zaheer Khan. He was a big blessing that dhoni got, for which credit goes to Ganguly. Notably, zaheer khan scalped 311 wickets in his almost 14-year-long Test career. Zaheer took maximum, 116 wickets under the captaincy of ms dhoni, while under the rein of sourav ganguly he scalped 102 wickets. zaheer khan, averaged 30.62 with the ball while playing under the leadership of Dhoni.
Further, gautam gambhir said that captaining the 2011 World Cup-winning indian side for ms dhoni was not difficult as players like sachin tendulkar, virender sehwag, Munaf patel, yuvraj singh, Yusuf Pathan and virat kohli were there in the team. He again asserted his point that sourav ganguly had to build a team from the ashes while "lucky captain" ms dhoni got a readymade team served on his plate and thus won many trophies.
