A package of tb medicines weighing two kg was transported from the district hospital in Tehri Garhwal, uttarakhand by a Vertiplane X-3 drone. The distance between the rishikesh AIIMS helipad and the hospital is 40 km and the drone reached there in just half an hour and delivered the medicines. Union health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed happiness over the success of this experiment. He said that this experiment will help a lot to supply medicines to the hospitals in the mountainous areas.

He said that drones are an excellent way to supply medicines to patients in areas without proper transport facilities, hospitals in hilly areas. He said that it takes about two hours to travel a distance of 40 kilometers in mountainous areas. But he expressed happiness that the X3 drone reached the destination in just 30 minutes.

He revealed that soon a trial will be conducted to deliver medicines through drones to the National cancer Center which is about 50 km away in Jhajjar under delhi AIIMS. He explained that medicine can be distributed through drones when there is a weak transport network, natural calamities, and harsh conditions.

While rishikesh AIIMS has undertaken this project to support the nationwide program to eradicate tb by 2025. The X3 drone will be used to deliver medicines and transport sputum samples from patients to laboratories. The X3 drone is manufactured by Tech Eagle Innovations. However, this is not the first time that medicine is being delivered by drones in India.
