The Skoda has already chalked out a four model launch plan, set for execution before the end of 2017. Besides the four model launch, a Rs. 100 crore investment is also on the cards to improve its service infrastructure.
The most awaited out of the four model launch plan is the Skoda Octavia Black Edition, besides the Octavia RS, Kodiaq and the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo Edition. The most noted inclusion into the Skoda Octavia Black Edition will be the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), besides a few visual enhancements. However, on the mechanical front, there won’t be any changes and it will use the existing powertrains the Skoda uses for the Octavia.
The DCC, based on the driving mode selected, changes the whole driving dynamics by making the steering heavy or light, altering the tension in the dampers by adjusting the flow of oil and varying the gearbox timing and acceleration. Skoda offers three driving modes as Normal, Comfort and Sport. The Czech carmaker already announced that it would equip the Skoda Superb sedan with the Dynamic Chassis Control, which led to it being talked about much.
Till now, Skoda hasn’t let in on the tech specs of the Octavia Black, but the same 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre TSI petrol motors making 147 bhp and 174 bhp, respectively, are expected. For the other fuel option, Skoda might continue with the same 2.0-litre TDI diesel mill making 140 bhp. The manual and automatic gearboxes will likely be optional.
On the visual front, large bumpers, black-painted alloys, headlamps with black-housing, dark interiors, etc. are expected. Though not revealed yet, the interiors are expected to sport touchscreen infotainment system and Bluetooth Connectivity with the controls mounted on the steering. The ORVMs will also be electrically-adjustable. And finally on the safety front, airbags may be made standard.
The launch date is not confirmed, though what is certain for now is that the Skoda Octavia Black Edition will hit the Indian terrains, next year, in 2017.
