As record-breaking rains ravaged areas of the Henan region on Tuesday, terrified metro commuters were left clutching on ceiling rails inside flooded carriages, stuck up to their heads in floodwaters. As per the meteorological observatory, more than 20 cm (7.8in) of rain poured with one hour in Zhengzhou, the province capital, on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people.


As per state-run news, over to 100,000 residents had been relocated from Zhengzhou, a metropolis of 12.6 million citizens on the shores of the Yellow River, with hundreds of emergency workers dispatched to aid in the operation.
