Devotees demonstrated in Varadharajapuram, near Tambaram, against the demolition of the Anjaneyar Temple. Some of them were fighting on the top of the temple tower. Varadharajapuram, near Tambaram, has an Anjaneyar temple. The Revenue Department and the Water Resources Department decided to demolish the temple and issued a warning to the temple administration, claiming that it was built to occupy the Adyar River. Both the administration and the devotees were adamantly opposed to this.

The Revenue Department and the Water Resources Department arrived with a Bokline machine to demolish the temple yesterday in this condition. As a result of this, a huge number of worshippers sat inside the temple and fought. A couple of them ascended to the top of the tower and struggled to keep the temple from being destroyed. After that, the Revenue Department, led by governor Priya of Kunrathur, held negotiations. Those who refused to accept it got into a spat with the Vattatsiyar. The temple's demolition was also temporarily postponed due to a lack of proper police security.

Officials stated a temple, a church, and some dwellings have been built on a 30-centimeter plot of land near Varadharajapuram along the Adyar River. As a result, it was decided to remove them, and they were given notice. When they attempted to remove the occupation, civilians were participating in the conflict. The residents' evacuation has been put on hold due to a lack of police presence. The occupancy would be removed in a day or two, they claimed.
