Seeking Early Resolution Through Bilateral Agreement

Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin has written a detailed letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi, expressing serious concern over the adverse impact caused by tariffs imposed by the united states on indian goods. In the letter, the chief minister urged the Union government to take swift action to resolve the issue through bilateral negotiations and agreements.

Concerns Over U.S. Tariff Measures

In his communication, M.K. stalin pointed out that the U.S. tariff measures have affected several categories of indian products, especially those exported from tamil Nadu. He noted that the increased duties have made indian goods less competitive in the American market, leading to reduced demand, order cancellations, and financial strain on exporters.

The chief minister emphasized that the united states is one of India’s key trading partners, and any disruption in trade relations has wide-ranging economic consequences.

Impact on tamil Nadu’s Export Sector

Stalin highlighted that tamil Nadu is a major contributor to India’s exports, particularly in sectors such as textiles and garments, leather goods, engineering products, automobile components, electronics, and pharmaceuticals. The imposition of higher tariffs has placed exporters—especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—under significant pressure.

He cautioned that prolonged tariff-related challenges could result in job losses, reduced industrial output, and economic instability, affecting thousands of workers and their families.

Call for Bilateral Negotiations

The chief minister urged the prime minister to engage with the U.S. government through bilateral trade agreements to eliminate or reduce the tariffs at the earliest. He stressed that a negotiated solution would help restore normal trade flows and protect indian exporters from further losses.

Stalin also requested the Centre to explore interim relief measures to support affected exporters until a permanent solution is reached.

Appeal in the National Interest

Emphasizing the importance of cooperative federalism, M.K. stalin stated that safeguarding exporters is a shared responsibility of the Centre and the states. He assured the prime minister of the tamil Nadu government’s full cooperation in providing necessary data and sector-specific inputs to facilitate negotiations.

Conclusion

By writing to prime minister Modi, chief minister M.K. stalin has drawn attention to the pressing challenges posed by U.S. tariffs on indian goods. His appeal for swift resolution through bilateral agreements highlights the need for timely diplomatic engagement to protect exporters, preserve employment, and strengthen India’s global trade position.
