The controversy surrounding the movie's reported chilly behind-the-scenes relationship between director Olivia Wilde and star Florence Pugh has garnered a lot of attention ahead of the movie's premiere. Although it may not be as profound or as critical as it perhaps wants to be, Don't Worry darling is nonetheless an engaging ride because to its mystery, vibrant visuals, and grounded performance by Pugh. Although it is weak on the latter, the hallucinogenic psychological thriller has lot to say about gaslighting in particular.

A dinner gathering is where the movie starts. Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) and her husband Jack (Harry Styles) are having a great time with their friends, including bunny (Olivia Wilde) and her husband Dean, who live next door (Nick Kroll). While her husbands labour on what they only know as the "Victory Project," headed by the charismatic Frank, Alice, who lives in a gated, idealised community, spends her days cleaning, cooking, shopping, and interacting with other women (Chris Pine). Alice begins to experience visions after Margaret (KiKi Layne), a resident of the victory neighbourhood, which uncannily reflects the 1950s ideal of what a perfect home, neighbourhood, and family life should look like, starts to doubt their lifestyles. After realising that something more nefarious is going on, Alice begins to look into the situation.

Don't Stress darling offers criticisms of how a society views a woman's role in the world, bodily autonomy, and how males (and occasionally even women) fight to maintain systemic power structures and control, albeit it doesn't really convey anything new to the audience. The movie attempts to be unpleasant, and it succeeds, in large part because of Pugh's portrayal of a confused Alice. At first, Alice appears cheerful, fully unaware of everything, and prepared to accept everything in her life without hesitation. Pugh is excellent as the obedient, devoted wife.

Don't Worry darling has certain compelling qualities that are nearly mesmerising, despite its flaws and constrained scope in terms of what it's trying to express. The general theme of the movie is still strong, and it has a lot of flair. Despite being predictable, the story is thrilling and entertaining. The writing is elevated by Pugh's superb acting, and the picture has enough going for it to be enjoyable to watch thanks to an intriguing central mystery.
