Manipur violence: Why 94 dead bodies not being cremated?

The remains of those slain in the unrest in Manipur at the start of May as a result of caste conflict have not yet been cremated. By december 11, the supreme court has mandated that all dead that have been identified be cremated. His final ceremonies were not carried out even after this.

As per the report, three state mortuaries are holding 94 deceased remains that are awaiting cremation. Imphal has two morgues, and Churachandpur has one. Eighty-eight of these bodies have been recognized, but their relatives have not yet made a claim. The Manipur government has designated nine cemeteries where the relatives can cremate the dead, as per the court's ruling. The state government may carry out the final rites in accordance with the legislation, the court has further declared, provided the family does not comply for a week.

What number of dead bodies are there?

40 bodies are housed in the Churachandpur mortuary, and 54 dead are located in the two mortuaries located in Imphal. Churachandpur has four Meitei dead bodies. The majority of Meitei families had already claimed their relatives' remains. On august 3, a contentious announcement was made by the powerful tribal organization, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITFL) of Churachandpur (ITFL), regarding the mass interment of all Kuki people's remains at a place under dispute.
