In the Nilgiris area of tamil Nadu, election authorities seized cash valued at Rs 69,400 from a family from punjab who had been there for holiday. social media users shared a video of the event that showed a mother sobbing and asking with the officials to refund the money while cradling her toddler.

During a car check on Sunday, election authorities retrieved the cash from the family in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct guidelines. On march 16, the election commission released the dates of the lok sabha elections, marking the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct.

The woman and her husband attempt to clarify to the authorities in the video that they were not aware of the Model Code of Conduct regulations that went into force because of the impending lok sabha elections. The administrators made an effort to enlighten the tourists on the poll code regulations. When the woman in the video queries an official, who speaks tamil, about receiving her money back, the official tells her that it would be completed by Monday. The assistant returning officer for the Nilgiris then confirmed the visitors' documents on monday and refunded the money that the poll authorities had confiscated.

The election commission states that anyone found in possession of more over Rs 50,000 in cash, new items, or gifts above Rs 10,000 will be confiscated. The goal of the proposal is to reduce the improper use of money to influence elections.

If the person presents legitimate identification and certifies that the objects confiscated have nothing to do with the elections, they will be refunded the money or item.

However, the cash would be submitted to the Income Tax Department for additional inquiry if the confiscated amount exceeds Rs 10 lakh. On social media, a number of individuals voiced their displeasure over the event and questioned why authorities were harassing the average person in the name of poll code regulations.

From april 19 to june 1, there will be seven phases for the lok sabha elections. june 4 is when the votes will be tallied.
