In light of the hyderabad cricket Association (HCA) authorities' non-payment of Rs 1.63 crores in outstanding debt, the telangana state southern power distribution company limited (TSSPDCL) shut off the electricity supply to the uppal stadium on thursday before the Sunrisers hyderabad (SRH) vs. chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL match.

Later on, the electrical department offered HCA an extra day because of the match, saying that it didn't want to let down cricket fans. It was verified by a tsspdcl representative that the power supply was unplugged.

The hyderabad cricket Association (HCA) was notified by the TSSPDCL's Habsiguda circle that the stadium's electricity supply would not be restored unless outstanding payments were made. The tsspdcl had written to the HCA on february 22 of this year, requesting payment of Rs 1.63 crore as a surcharge (in lieu of late payment).

The tsspdcl officials purportedly cut off the stadium's power supply since the money was not reportedly paid within the allotted 15 days (instead of receiving a warning). That being said, this is not the first time it has occurred. In 2021, the HCA was also subject to similar proceedings for failure to pay dues.

The power board did not take into consideration the HCA's apparent request for relief from the tsspdcl about the payment of the outstanding surcharge dues of Rs 1.63 crore. The matter originates from a 2015 lawsuit brought before the high court by the HCA owing to unpaid dues.

"The 15-day notice expired one month ago today. After the indian Premier League game on march 27, we were meant to turn off the electricity, but we didn't. The tsspdcl informed india Herald, "They must make the payment, and we would quickly restore energy whenever the bill lowers for payment. It remains to be seen how this issue is resolved on both sides.
