Due to the intense heat and dry weather, residents in the city are using air conditioners and other cooling devices to an unprecedented degree, pushing the Greater hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (GHMC) power consumption restrictions. Because of the extreme heat, the city's electricity usage increased by 24.52 percent in march and by 19.66 percent in April.

Higher power consumption is anticipated as a result of the predicted higher temperatures, which might strain power plants and perhaps result in blackouts. The city has been having warm, dry weather during the day for the previous few days, which has increased the power demand. Officials from the Southern Power Distribution Company Of telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) report that average consumption in march was 72.02 MU, up 24.52 percent from the previous March's 57.84 MU. The average consumption for april was 79.93 MU, up 19.66 percent from 66.8 MU in the previous April.

It's interesting to note that during the final week of april, the city had an unheard-of rise in both power demand and consumption, with peak demand increasing by an average of 35.19 percent and consumption by 38.89 percent. In contrast to the previous year, when it was 2952 MW, the average peak demand in the ghmc limits was 3991 MW during the final week of April. Peak demand on april 30 was 4214 MW, up 62.20 percent over the greatest peak demand of 3112 MW at the same time last year.

The city's average electricity usage has also increased, reaching 84.12 million units in april compared to 60.57 million units in the Greater hyderabad boundaries during the same month the previous year. The maximum power usage during the time was 64.38 MU on april 27, while the lowest power consumption on april 30 was 88.75 MU.

As the city's average daily temperature surpassed 43°C, there was a noticeable spike in electricity consumption because more people were using air conditioners and coolers. According to electricity authorities, between 40 and 60 percent of the city's summertime peak power demand is now attributed to air conditioning. Out of the 60.92 lakh power connections in the ghmc limit, 50.14 lakh are for home use, while the remaining power connections are for non-domestic, commercial, and industrial users.
