According to 'The Times' survey, over one-third of those between the ages of 18 and 27 think marriage is vital, while almost 20% think it is meaningless. A clan that has been following the 'no strings attached' tradition for ages survives in a world of one-night hookups and casual sex.

The Mosuo people, who live in the isolated highlands of southwest China, have a strange and little-known custom that goes against everything we believe to be true about marriage. Welcome to the world of "walking marriages," a notion that permits commitment without even sharing a bed or a residence!

The concept of monogamy as we know it does not exist among Mosuo women. Rather, they participate in "walking marriages," in which men spend the night at women's houses and return to their own homes before daybreak. These unconventional partnerships enable both parties to remain independent while developing close bonds.

The really interesting part, though, is that Mosuo women make the decisions. They are free to select their companions without being constrained by long-term commitments or marriage licenses. The woman's family is the center of the communal structure, and relationships are flexible. if a relationship doesn't work? Just leave, no conditions attached.

Today, a US aircraft carrying 119 deportees will touch down in Amritsar.

The Mosuo view this unusual arrangement as ideal, with many women living totally free from the constraints of traditional marriage, despite the fact that outsiders may wince at it.
