According to Variety (via GameFragger.com), Sydney Sweeney, star of Madame Web and Anyone But You, will play the lead in the upcoming big-screen version of the popular video game Split Fiction, which was developed by Hazelight Studios and EA.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the authors of Deadpool & Wolverine, are writing the screenplay, while Jon M. Chu, the director of Wicked and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is directing.  It's obvious that this is being considered as a possible new action franchise for Sweeney, and that's some serious talent.

Her co-star, who will undoubtedly be given equal credit, has not yet been located.  Additionally, it is unclear from the deal whether Sweeney will play Mio or Zoe in the film.  At the Game Developers Conference in March, we first found out that a Split Fiction film was in development.  When the game was released to overwhelmingly positive reviews and reported sales of over two million copies in the week following its launch, hollywood became interested in the project.

Chu's Electric Somewhere and Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson's Story Kitchen (previously dj2 Entertainment) will produce Split Fiction.  Sweeney will serve as executive producer as well. The future Streets of Rage and It Takes Two films, the Tomb Raider animated series on Netflix, and the Sonic the Hedgehog films were all developed by Story Kitchen.
