On Saturday, the government requested that media outlets abstain from live coverage of defense operations and security force movements, arguing that such coverage could unintentionally aid adversaries. The warning follows defense-related coverage of the terror assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, primarily tourists.

"In the interest of national security, all media platforms, news agencies, and social media users are advised to exercise utmost responsibility and adhere strictly to existing laws and regulations while reporting on matters concerning defense and other security-related operations," according to an advisory issued by the Ministry of Information and Television.

"Specifically: No real-time coverage, dissemination of visuals, or reporting based on 'sources-based' information related to defense operations or movement should be undertaken," it said.

Additionally, according to the caution, revealing sensitive information too soon could unintentionally enable hostile actors and jeopardize personnel safety and operational efficacy.

According to the warning, "unrestricted coverage had unintended adverse consequences on national interests" in the Kargil war, the 2008 mumbai terror attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking.  Earlier, On X, netizens trolled @ANI for sharing the militants hideout places in their video and it went viral.
