Through the eyes of a fresh character, Ballerina explores the world of john Wick.  Eve, played by Ana de Armas, is an assassin who was once a ballet dancer and seems to be as creative and effective at her job as the franchise star played by Keanu Reeves.  The story of Eve's search for vengeance for her father's death is told in Ballerina, which takes place in between john Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum and john Wick: Chapter 4.

Despite being new to john Wick, Len Wiseman, the film's director, is no stranger to producing spectacles that captivate audiences.  In addition to directing the Underworld film series, Wiseman has directed Live Free or Die Hard, Total Recall (2012), and other films.  Shay Hatten, who wrote the scripts for the third and fourth john Wick films, wrote Ballerina.

The fact that Ana de Armas' character will be competing against john Wick himself was one of the most significant revelations from the Ballerina teaser; few characters in this movie universe survive.  It's a difficult task to pit such a well-liked character against Ballerina's protagonist, but Len Wiseman stated he had "No concerns."  Wiseman went on to say, "As a series fan, I would be wanting to see that," and he would be kind of waiting for it.

“I can’t really tell much about the fight,” Wiseman said, “but I was completely excited about it, and we took a lot of time. They did a lot of rehearsal–but I can’t really say what happens.”
