If there is a next-generation player in the indian team who is currently performing exceptionally in batting and captaincy, it is Shreyas Iyer. He led teams like punjab and delhi to the final in the difficult IPL series and led kolkata to win the trophy after 10 years in 2025. Not only that, he scored more than 500 runs in the 2023 world cup series, became the highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy series, and played brilliantly in the Ranji Trophy and series like vijay hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali. But, he doesn't get a place in all 3 sections of the indian team. He is not even considered for the captaincy. It is in this context that Shreyas was not included in the five-match Test series against England. Ganguly has objected to this.
Virat kohli has said that in the absence of Rohit, Shreyas should definitely be given a place. Speaking about this, he said, "Shreyas Iyer has been playing brilliantly for the last one year. It was a mistake not to include him in the team. Look at the performance he has shown in the last 12 months." "Such a player should not have been left out of the team. He has the ability to score runs even in pressure situations. He plays responsibly and faces short balls well."

"Although Test cricket is a different game, I would have included him in the team because I am eager to see what he is going to do in Test cricket. If the indian team wants to win the england series, two things are important. "One, the indian batsmen have to play well. The other is that bumrah has to be fit throughout the series. Even when we won the 2020-21 Australian series in Melbourne, kohli and Rohit were not there. So, there is no reason to say that we cannot win this series," Ganguly questioned.
