A release issued by the supreme court said, 'The Chief Justice of india and his other fellow judges of the supreme court and officers of the registry express their deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragic air accident in ahmedabad today.'

Chief Justice Gavai also expressed his concern for the residents of BJ Medical college, where the London-bound air india plane crashed. The accident has caused heavy damage to the buildings of the campus.

The CJI said, 'Our condolences and prayers are with them in this difficult time.' The London-bound air india plane crashed in a residential area minutes after taking off from ahmedabad airport on thursday afternoon. There were 242 people on board the plane, including two pilots and 10 crew members. Many people are feared dead in the accident.

The plane crashed near the residential quarters of the doctors and nursing staff of the city's Civil Hospital and BJ Medical college in Meghnani nagar near Sardar Vallabhbhai patel international Airport.

The Associated press had earlier reported the death of all 242 people on board the plane, but it has come to light that one passenger is alive. This passenger had come to india from britain to meet his relatives. It is difficult to identify the bodies, so the gujarat government has appealed to the relatives of the people on board the plane to give dna samples.

A gujarat government official said, 'Arrangements for dna testing have been made at BJ Medical college, so the families and close ones of the passengers, especially their parents and children, are requested to submit their samples at the place so that the victims can be identified as soon as possible.'

At the time of the incident, the plane fell on the roof of the mess of a medical college located near the airport. At that time, the students living in the hostel were having lunch in the mess. Some local people are also reported to have lost their lives in the accident.
