US President donald trump has made it clear that the tariff deadline of July 9 is not a fixed date. He said that America can increase it or reduce it, it will all depend on how the business talks with other countries go.
US President trump made a big claim
Talking to the media at the White House, trump gave an open warning. He said, "We can change the decision whenever we want. We can postpone it or expedite it. I want to expedite it and send a direct letter to everyone - congratulations, now you are paying 25 percent tax." While last week the discussion in America was about the attack on iran and the tax bill, now the trump administration has increased its focus on trade.
US Finance minister Scott Besant said this
On Thursday, the US sent a new trade proposal to the european union, while india has sent its delegation to Washington for trade talks. At the same time, US Finance minister Scott Besant has said that trade agreements may take some time, but many important agreements can be completed by Labor Day (early September).
Speaking to Fox business Network, Besant said, "We are getting proposals from many countries. We have 18 important trade partners. If we finalize agreements with 10 or 12 of them and we are also talking to 20 more countries with large economies, then it is possible that we can complete the trade process by Labor Day."
Tariff exemption will end on July 8
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump had announced the implementation of the reciprocal tariff system on almost all foreign imports in april 2025. Under this, goods on which more than 10% tariff was to be imposed were given a 90-day exemption so that countries could reach an agreement through mutual negotiations. This exemption is ending on 8 July.
However, by the end of May, Trump's stance became more strict. He warned of imposing import duty up to 50% on goods coming from the european Union. The EU has already faced US tariffs in several phases.
