Russia carried out its biggest airstrike on ukraine so far, which involved more than 500 drones and missiles. During this, an F-16 aircraft was damaged and the Ukrainian pilot also died.

Russia-Ukraine war

Russia shot down Ukraine's F-16 fighter plane on sunday (29 june 2025), killing a Ukrainian pilot. The Ukrainian army said that russia had carried out several drone and missile attacks last night. During that time, an F-16 fighter jet came under the target of the Russian army and was destroyed.

Russia carried out its biggest airstrike ever on saturday night (28 june 2025) by firing more than 500 drones and missiles. This attack shook many areas of western, southern, and central Ukraine.

The Ukrainian air Force said it encountered 477 drones and 60 missiles. Of these, 249 drones were shot down and 226 were neutralized through electronic jamming. This attack is being seen as the most powerful bombing campaign by russia since the beginning of the war.

The pilot shot down 7 targets and died after the F-16 was damaged

The Ukrainian air Force confirmed that an F-16 fighter jet became a target of the Russian army in an attempt to stop the attack and its pilot was martyred. The pilot shot down 7 air attacks, but the jet was damaged while attacking the last target. After being hit by a missile, the fighter jet began to fall rapidly from the height. During this time the pilot kept trying to take the plane away from the populated area. The Ukrainian air Force issued a statement on Telegram saying that the pilot used all his onboard weapons, but the plane was badly damaged in the last attack and he could not get out in time. So far three Ukrainian fighter jets have been destroyed in Russian attacks.

Russia intensifies air strikes on Ukraine

According to a  report, this attack is a sign of russia intensifying its bombing strategy. Experts believe that this level of military aggression has further dented the prospects of peace talks. During this attack, russia used cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles as well as 'false targets' (fake weapons) to confuse the Ukrainian defense system.

Ukraine got support from America and its allies

Ukraine recently received its first batch of F-16 fighter jets with the help of the netherlands and Denmark. These aircraft are being operated under US training and technical cooperation. On 26 May 2025, one of the two last F-16 aircraft was sent to ukraine from Volkel air Base, but now after losing another aircraft, the pressure on Ukraine's air defense capability has increased further.
