After the stampede in Rath yatra, the odisha government transferred the DM-SP of Puri. Apart from this, the DCP and Commandant have been suspended for negligence.

Puri Rath yatra Stampede

After the puri Rath yatra stampede, the odisha government has taken strict action. The Mohan Majhi government has transferred the district Collector and SP of Puri and DCP vishnu Pati and Commandant ajay Padhi have been suspended for negligence in duty.


Along with this, the Chief Minister's office has announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the devotees killed in the stampede. The chief minister has ordered a detailed administrative inquiry under the supervision of the Development Commissioner. Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new district Collector, while Pinak Mishra has taken over as the new SP. 


At least 3 devotees died in stampede

Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on sunday (June 29, 2025) apologized to the devotees of Lord Jagannath for the stampede near a temple in Puri. At least three people died in this incident. Officials said that about 50 others were also injured in the stampede near Sri Gundicha temple early Sunday.

CM Majhi apologized

CM Majhi posted on 'X' and said, 'I and my government apologize to all the Jagannath devotees. We express our condolences to the families of the devotees who lost their lives in the stampede. We pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath to give them strength to bear this sorrow. He also said that the security lapse will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.'


Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik said that the odisha government has proved incapable of ensuring a peaceful Rath yatra for devotees near the Sri Gundicha temple. Patnaik posted on 'X' that I express my deepest condolences to the families of the three devotees who lost their lives in the stampede at Puri's Sharadabali and pray to Lord Jagannath for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees. 


Leader of Opposition in the odisha Assembly Patnaik said that today's stampede, just a day after the gross failure of crowd management during the Rath yatra, has exposed the government's inability to ensure a peaceful celebration.
