In a significant move, the central government has authorized early disbursal of salaries and pensions for its employees and pensioners in maharashtra and kerala, in light of the upcoming Ganapati and onam festivals.

According to the Ministry of Finance's office Memoranda issued on august 21 and 22, 2025, here are the details:

Maharashtra: central government employees, including personnel from the Defence, Posts, and Telecommunications sectors, will receive their august salaries on august 26, 2025 (Tuesday), just before the Ganapati festival, which is celebrated on august 27, 2025.

Kerala: Employees and pensioners in kerala will be paid on august 25, 2025 (Monday), ahead of onam, which will be observed on september 4-5, 2025.

Advance Payments Clarification

The Finance Ministry has emphasized that these payments should be regarded as advance disbursals. The released salaries, pensions, and wages will be reconciled against the final settlement for august and september 2025, once the total entitlements for the month are finalized. The circular specifically states, “The salary/wages/pension so disbursed is to be treated as advance payments and will be subject to adjustment after the full month’s salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner is determined.”

Banking Implementation

Additionally, the Ministry has instructed the reserve bank of india (RBI) to ensure that all paying branches in kerala and maharashtra adhere to this disbursal schedule promptly. This directive also encompasses industrial employees of the central government in kerala, ensuring they too benefit from the early salary release.

This proactive approach aims to enable employees and pensioners to celebrate the festivals with financial ease.
