Ram Charan’s much-anticipated sports drama Peddi is already making noise with its star-studded cast—Kannada superstar Shivaraj Kumar, bollywood beauty Jahnvi Kapoor, and actor Divyenndu Sharma are all on board. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the rural entertainer is racing ahead with shoot schedules, aiming for a grand Summer 2026 release. But the film recently hit headlines for an unexpected casting twist.

According to reports, malayalam actress Swasika was approached to play the mother of ram charan in the film. While she found the role intriguing and appreciated the emotional arc written for the character, she politely declined the offer. The reason? Swasika felt it was too early in her career to step into the shoes of a mother for a top star like Charan.

The actress, who has recently been offered several “motherly” roles, seems cautious about typecasting. She was reportedly taken aback when the makers of Peddi narrated the part, especially because she still plays youthful roles in her other films. Swasika did not want to be perceived as “aged on-screen” opposite a dynamic actor like ram charan and hence chose to pass on the opportunity.

That doesn’t mean she’s short of offers—far from it. Fresh from her hits Lubber Pandu and Maaman, and with impactful roles in Retro and Thammudu, Swasika is very much in demand. She is next gearing up to share screen space with none other than Suriya in his upcoming project Karuppu. Clearly, she’s picking scripts that ensure her versatility shines rather than getting boxed into a single on-screen image.

✨ Verdict: While fans might have been curious to see Swasika in a powerful maternal role opposite ram charan, the actress has made her stance clear—she wants roles that reflect her range, not just her age.
