An attempted robbery of a taxi driver's phone and wallet on Richmond Road in Bengaluru, Karnataka, resulted in the robber filing a police report requesting legal action against the individuals who beat him up.

18-year-old Ritesh Jayakumar barged into a taxi in Bengaluru's Domlur district and demanded the driver hand up to his cash and cell phone at knifepoint He was forced out of the vehicle after refusing to leave. As soon as cars and bystanders heard the taxi driver's screams for aid, they took immediate action. A violent Jayakumar tried to assault them with the knife when they tried to capture him. His body was then brutally assaulted by a mob. He fled the scene and complained to the police about the throng, which led to him being tracked down and detained.

The cab driver afterwards filed a police report in relation to this event. It was on the basis of his allegation that the police tracked him down, charged him with attempted robbery and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon under indian Penal Code Sections 393, 398, and 399.
Surprisingly, Jayakumar filed a complaint against the public in response to a counter-complaint made by Jayakumar. He was surrounded by 30-40 guys who thrashed him. Injuries occurred to his lips, wrists, and legs. IPC Sections 341 and 323 were used to file a complaint against the mob (voluntarily causing hurt).
