A small private plane crashed in central mexico on Monday, killing at least seven people and prompting emergency responses and investigations, officials confirmed.

The accident happened in the industrial area of San Mateo Atenco, which is located about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Toluca international Airport, roughly 50 kilometres (31 miles) west of mexico City.

Flight and crash Details

  • The aircraft departed from Acapulco, a coastal city on Mexico’s Pacific coast, heading toward Toluca.
  • It was a small private jet carrying eight passengers and two crew members.
  • Authorities said the plane experienced trouble during flight and was attempting an emergency landing when the crash occurred.

According to local officials, the aircraft tried to land in an open field (described as a soccer field) after experiencing technical difficulties, but it struck a metal roof of a nearby business building instead. This impact caused a large fire at the crash site.

Casualties and Response

  • So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the wreckage.
  • Emergency responders, including firefighters and rescue teams, were at the scene battling the blaze and coordinating search and recovery operations.
  • Roughly 130 residents were evacuated from nearby areas as a precautionary measure due to the fire and risk of further hazards.

Investigation Underway

Mexican authorities, including civil protection organizations and aviation investigators, are conducting a formal investigation into the cause of the crash. Preliminary information suggests that the pilot spotted a problem shortly after takeoff and attempted an emergency landing, but the exact technical cause has not yet been confirmed.

Officials stressed that it may take days or weeks for investigators to determine the full sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
