Muslim residents of Jamia nagar in delhi have filed a plea against an alleged construction gang that is aiming to destroy a Hindu temple in the Noor nagar neighbourhood and inflame racial tensions. The builders are allegedly attempting to demolish the temple through unlawful means and encroaching on temple grounds, according to a plea filed in the delhi High Court.

“Dharamshala of the mandir has been demolished overnight in a rush and the whole area has been levelled so that it may be encroached upon by unlawful miscreants/builders,” the 206 Ward Committee of Jamia nagar said in its petition to the delhi High Court.

On september 24, Justice sanjeev Sachdeva of the delhi High court ordered police to ensure that no illegal unauthorised encroachment on the stated land occurs, and that the space designated as a mandir in the layout plan be safeguarded and protected.
In their petition to the court, petitioners from the Ward Committee of Noor nagar stated that the mandir was built in 1970 and is noted on the DDA layout drawings.
Since the inauguration of the Mandir in the year 1970, pujas and kirtans have been held without interruption. According to the petitioner, there were about 8-10 idols in the Mandir for the purpose of puja and other religious functions, which have now been removed by the builder.
