CBSE Community Radio Launch: Benefits for students and Teachers
The Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) is set to launch a community radio station aimed at directly engaging students, teachers, and parents. Unlike traditional educational platforms, CBSE Community Radio will feature not only lectures and notes but also live, interactive programs that encourage real-time participation.
This initiative received approval during a recent meeting of the board's governing body. CBSE envisions this radio station as a means to enhance educational outreach and facilitate dialogue among stakeholders in education.
The plan includes applying for a community radio license, with meetings scheduled over the next six months to consult experts and stakeholders. Decisions will be made regarding the types of programs to be aired and the preparation of the license application, with financial planning already underway. A senior official noted that this will serve as a new communication channel for the board.
Distinct from CBSE's existing podcast platform, Shiksha Vani, which offers audio material based on the NCERT syllabus, the community radio station promises live interactivity, allowing direct connections among students, teachers, and parents.
The significance of this initiative lies in its potential to reach areas with limited internet access, helping to disseminate information and boost participation in educational activities. This marks a pioneering step for a national education board in India.
Community radio is recognized as a vital medium, distinct from public and commercial radio, focusing on serving specific communities. With 540 licensed community radio stations in India, primarily operated by educational institutions and NGOs, this initiative by CBSE is poised to strengthen community engagement and improve educational outcomes across diverse linguistic and regional backgrounds.
