Scientists have discovered a new type of diabetes!

Today, people are facing a lot of problems due to diabetes even at a young age. Therefore, many of us will be well aware of this disease. Many people will know that there are 2 types of diabetes, which include type-1 and type-2. But perhaps you are not aware till now that apart from these two diabetes, people can also have diabetes called type 5. In fact, this week a new form of diabetes called type-5 was announced at the World congress of diabetes 2025. A global task force will investigate this rare or less known condition, which is quite different from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. According to media reports, this week professor Peter Schwartz, President of the international diabetes Federation, has announced this at the World congress of diabetes 2025 held in bangkok this week.

It is completely different from type 1 and type 2

Type 5 diabetes affects people with low weight. Along with this, those who have no history of diabetes in the family and who do not show the common symptoms of type 1 or type 2 diabetes are more likely to get this diabetes. Dr. nihal Thomas, professor, Department of Endocrinology at Christian Medical college (CMC), Vellore, said, "People suffering from type 5 diabetes are usually underweight, have no history of diabetes in their family and show symptoms that do not match type 1 or type 2 diabetes at all."

Type-5 diabetes is not insulin resistant

In 2022, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta of CMC, along with professor Meredith Hawkins of Albert Einstein college of Medicine, New York, studied this condition and identified key physical differences. Its results were published in the journal diabetes Care. “People with type 5 are insulin deficient, but not insulin resistant. This is a key difference from type 2 diabetes, where the body resists the action of insulin even though it does not make enough insulin.
