Hepatitis Outbreak in Haryana: Causes, Cases, and Precautions
Sudden Surge in Hepatitis Cases
Chhainsa village in Palwal district, Haryana, is facing a serious health crisis with a sudden increase in hepatitis patients. Approximately 32 people are currently undergoing treatment for hepatitis C, raising concerns among residents and health authorities.
Deaths and health Department Action
Recently, seven people tragically died due to jaundice and hepatitis infection. Overall, the village has reported 15 deaths so far, with four confirmed as caused by hepatitis B. The Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Harish Kumar Vashishtha, personally visited the area and has directed strict measures to contain the outbreak. The health department has intensified door-to-door screening and testing campaigns to prevent further spread.

New Hepatitis B Cases
In addition to ongoing hepatitis C cases, 12 new hepatitis B infections have been reported in the village. The sudden rise in both hepatitis B and C cases has put local health authorities on high alert.
Understanding Hepatitis and Its Risks
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viral infections.
Hepatitis B and C are considered the most dangerous forms because they can spread through blood and body fluids. If left untreated, these infections can lead to severe liver damage, cirrhosis, or liver cancer. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent fatal outcomes.
Modes of Transmission
The virus spreads through multiple pathways, especially in rural areas:
Contaminated water or food
Use of infected needles for injections or medical procedures
Unsafe tattooing practices using a single needle
Sharing personal items like razors or toothbrushes
Unprotected sexual contact
Preventive Measures
Health authorities emphasize proper hygiene, use of sterilized medical equipment, vaccination against hepatitis B, and safe practices for injections and tattoos. Awareness campaigns and regular screenings are essential to limit further infections.
Silent but Dangerous Disease
Hepatitis often progresses silently, gradually impairing liver function. Understanding its causes, transmission, and prevention is vital for communities to protect themselves from severe complications.
