In a village near Kollidam in mayiladuthurai district, villagers do not fire the crackers for birds.

The village of Perambur near Kollidam is rich in neem and fern trees. Thousands of birds come and stay in these trees every year to breed.

Birds, including snails, storks, cranes and snakes, usually come and stay during the months of august and September.

This year accordingly thousands of birds are staying in the trees in Perambur village for breeding.

According to locals, rare birds come to the village from all over Australia. Birds including Madayan and Waterfowl also come to Perambur village from Vedaranyam and Vedanthangal.

The villagers have come together and decided to protect these birds and have given up exploding diwali firecrackers for years. The villagers of Perambur are proud that the sound of birds chirping day and night brings beauty to their hometown.

The villagers say that even if someone enters the town to hunt the birds, they will chase them away together.

The villagers of Perambur say that it has been many years since they gave up the habit of exploding firecrackers for Deepavali and that the parents of the boys and girls do not hesitate to ask for firecrackers as they also create awareness about birds.

No one has any alternative opinion as to whether the villagers of Perambur are true to be commended for avoiding the practice of exploding firecrackers for birds.
