Salim Khan on Interfaith marriage & Religion

Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, father of salman khan, recently spoke about his interfaith marriage, his family traditions, and his open approach towards religion.


Ganesh Chaturthi Tradition

The tradition of celebrating ganesh chaturthi in his family started with his father.

While living in Indore, his father, then a DSP, mingled freely with Hindu tenants.

Their family celebrated festivals together without discrimination, sharing food and joy.


Marriage with Salma Khan (Sushila Charak)

Salim Khan emphasized that celebrating Hindu festivals was already part of his upbringing even before marriage.

He grew up surrounded by Hindus at school, in the neighbourhood, and at the police station.

His own family did not object to his marriage with Salma Khan.

However, Salma’s father, a dentist, initially opposed due to religious differences.

Eventually, he accepted the marriage after realizing the couple’s strong bond.

Today, Salim and Salma have been married for 60 years, and religion has never been an issue in their relationship.


Views on Religion

Salim Khan revealed that his Muslim relatives never object to his lifestyle.

He mentioned that he occasionally drinks alcohol but has always maintained that beef is not eaten in his house.

He respects the sanctity of the cow and believes islam also adopts the good practices of other religions.

Salim has read the Holy Quran in english and found its messages to emphasize humanity and compassion.


Connection with indian Epics

He worked as a consultant on the 2013 tv serial Mahabharat, without charging fees.

He guided the production team on what should be depicted, considering himself an expert on the epic.

He shared a humorous memory when people at dilip Kumar’s house failed to recognize him and asked who he was.
