How would you feel if you see Dinosaurs alive once again ? The same has happened as scientists found two sea snake species which was found to be extinct years ago. The short-nose sea snake and the leaf-scaled sea snake were touted to be extinct as their only habitat is on Ashmore reef at the Timor Sea. For past 15 years, there has been no updates regarding this snake.
James Cook University researchers wrote in the Biological Conservation journal wrote that they were an extinct species. But they have been seen healthy and 'alive' at Ningaloo Reef (short-nose sea snake) and Shark Bay (leaf-scaled sea snake).
Regarding this, Blanche D'Anastasi said, "We are so excited with this discovery. We get another chance to protect these two endemic Western Australian sea snake species. But to protect them, we need to face lots of challenges. We need to monitor the populations of the whole species and we should not provide them any threats."
