According to the latest Bikinl snack is hurting the sentiments of majority of Muslims. Bikini snack is a noodle snack that carries a picture of a bikini clad woman with a caption "remas aku" meaning 'squeeze me'. This packaging and brand promotion of the product outraged muslims across the world especially muslim majority Indonesia.
The name Bikini in Indonesia means “trendy rice noodles”. Consumer groups cameout protesting on streets calling it to be pulled out from the shops.The snack could be ordered only online and conservative sections of the society in Indonesia expressed their anger.
Indonesian Consumers Foundation executive chairman Tulus Abadi speaking to scribes said the name and packaging amounted to pornography and should be pulled out from the market. Mayor of Bandung city on Java island, Ridwan kamil from where the snack is believed to have been produced called the company to withdraw the product.
Indonesia’s official Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency and local authorities are still in search of manufacturer of the snak in bandung but he is yet to be arrested. The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) found that the production company didnot apply for official institutional permits.
BPOM head Penny Kusumastuti Lukito said "It has been found that the production company did not apply for official institutional permits in the first place, either from the BPOM or the MUI [Indonesian Ulema Council], and that the stamps on the packaging were fake,"
