The historic and famous Tirukkamis Varar temple is located in Villianur, Pondicherry. The temple, which spans two acres, is decorated with Chola period duck duck art. In this temple, there are countless shrines, and all of the towers are well drained. The temple was inundated as a result of the ongoing heavy rainfall. Rainwater is gathered at many locations across the temple complex, including the worshippers' stand, Amman Sannathi, and Thirukka Meeswarar Sannidhi.

During severe rains, attempts were made to move stagnant rainwater from the temple grounds into the temple pond. The rainwater then moved underground, through the pond, without being wasted. The pond, however, was inundated as a result of the continuing severe rains, and its water encircled the temple. Since 2005, rainwater has accumulated inside the Thirukkameswarar temple.

The Public Works Department has been asked by chief minister Rangasamy to remove the rainwater that has accumulated within the temple. In the Villupuram district, rainwater invaded the Thiruvakkarai Vakirakali Amman shrine. As a new depression has formed, heavy rains are expected to continue until 30th of this month and devotees are asked to stay safe and avoid visiting the temples until the waterlogging is removed.
