Out of the 39 leaders who have got a place in the congress Working Committee, 11 leaders are such, who
have not contested any election for the last 10 years or more. Most of the leaders are doing their politics with
the help of Rajya Sabha.
1. manmohan Singh- Former prime minister manmohan Singh is the oldest (90 years) in the executive.
Singh has not contested a single election directly so far. For the last 10 years, he is not even active in
electoral politics.
2. priyanka Gandhi- priyanka Gandhi, who entered politics in the year 2018, herself has not contested a
single election till now. In the organization, he was made the general secretary in-charge of UP, but the
performance of the party remained poor even there.
3. AK Antony- Senior leader AK Antony, who was included in the working committee, has also not
contested elections for a long time. Antony, who last won the legislative election in 2001, was doing national
politics through rajya sabha only.
4. ambika Soni- ambika Soni, a member of sonia Gandhi's kitchen cabinet, has also been doing national
politics with the help of Rajya Sabha. In 2014, Soni contested from Anandpur Sahib, but had to face a
crushing defeat.
5. anand Sharma- anand sharma has been keeping himself away from electoral politics since the time of
Rajiv Gandhi. Sharma's politics also rests on the support of Rajya Sabha. However, Sharma has been quite
vocal on his demand for holding elections within the party.
6. Abhishek manu Singhvi- Renowned lawyer Abhishek manu Singhvi, who got place in CWC, is also far
away from direct election. Singhvi has been interfering in national politics since 2006 through the Rajya
Sabha.
7. Jairam Ramesh- The politics of Jairam Ramesh, the head of the party's communications department, who
has been included in the congress Working Committee, also rests on the support of the Rajya Sabha.
Ramesh is a rajya sabha MP since 2004.
8. deepak Babaria- deepak Babaria, in-charge of Haryana, who got a place in the CWC, has also never
contested elections till now. Babaria comes from Gujarat, which has been a stronghold of the bjp for the last
30 years.
9. P chidambaram - Former Union minister contested his last election in 2009 from Sivagangai seat. In
2014, chidambaram gave this seat to his son Karti. Since then chidambaram is doing politics with the help
of Rajya Sabha.
10. Nasir Hussain- Syed Nasir Hussain, who was included in the congress Working Committee from the
Muslim quota, has also not contested direct elections. Hussain is considered close to Kharge. Was elected to
Rajya Sabha from karnataka in 2018.
11. avinash Pandey- jharkhand congress in-charge avinash Pandey has also not contested any election after
2014. Pandey was a rajya sabha member till 2016, but after that his duty was shifted to the organization.
