Tuesday's unusually heavy rains across much of the tri-commissionerate region required quick action to maintain smooth traffic movement, especially during the morning rush hour, thus traffic police had to double as civic workers. Images of these behaviours gained widespread acclaim on social media networks.

The National Highway segment towards kukatpally was blocked by water up to two feet high, according to the police, who reported a terrible situation at the moosapet Metro station. From early in the morning until about six in the evening, they claimed, traffic from Erragadda to the kukatpally Y-Junction was halted. While the other side of the road was free of traffic, the flow from IDL Lake made things worse in the area going to kukatpally, according to the police.

Similar circumstances prevailed in Tolichowki, where the flyover was clogged by water from the Shaikpet nala. The traffic jam, which also affected traffic in Begumpet, Punjagutta, Masab Tank, Lakdikapul, Secunderabad, and Uppal, was felt all the way to Mehdipatnam. ACP (Traffic) C. Dhana Laxmi and her crew cleared waterlogging at Tolichowki by removing muck from manholes. Additionally, they assisted commuters who became stopped on the flooded highways.

At sultan Bazaar, Malakpet, Punjagutta, greenland Junction, Khairatabad, portions of Secunderabad, and the IT corridor, traffic cops were also seen cleaning up manholes and roadside debris.
