The central government and the Asian Development bank have signed a loan agreement to build high-quality urban infrastructure. The central government today signed a $400 million policy-based loan agreement with the Asian Development bank for building high-quality urban infrastructure, improving service delivery in urban areas, efficient governance systems, etc. The loan agreement for sub-project 2 of the Sustainable Urban Development and service Delivery Program was signed by Juhi Mukherjee, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Takeo Konishi, director, india Division, Asian Development Bank. Sub-Plan 1 was approved in 2021 with a funding of $350 million to improve urban services. Presently the sub-programme-2 is said to support investment planning and reform activities at the state and urban local government levels.

Speaking after signing the loan agreement, Juhi Mukherjee said cities can be transformed into hubs of growth by building infrastructure that is inclusive, resilient and sustainable. He said that the central government is focusing on urban reforms aimed at this and this sub-plan will encourage it. Takeo Konishi, director of the Asian Development Bank's india Division, said that the sub-project-2 will give impetus to the Amruth 2.0 project, which aims to provide safe clean drinking water and sanitation services for all.
