The Sringagar police have lodged a case against a non-local student at the National Institute of technology (NIT) in srinagar for allegedly distributing a video on social media that offended the religious feelings of local students. A complaint has been filed against him under the IPC for inciting religious hatred among groups.

Protests by local Kashmiri Muslim students were seen around the Valley after the student's controversial video went viral. Protesters urged harsh punishment for the non-local student. The srinagar police Department advised the people not to propagate misinformation.
"The general public is urged to refrain from spreading rumors/false information."They must not succumb to anti-social groups' misleading rhetoric. "Those found to be involved in provocative acts or instigation will face legal action," the police stated in a tweet.

On tuesday evening, kashmir Inspector General of police (IGP) v K Birdi stated that the police had received a formal complaint from the NIT Registrar requesting legal action, according to news agency PTI. "We have taken legal action in accordance with relevant sections of the law." "The investigation is ongoing," said the IGP.
