Samajwadi party mla Rais Shaikh has demanded that the Inter-Religious Marriage-Family Coordination
Committee formed by the women and Child Development Department regarding the complaint of love Jihad
case should be cancelled. mla Sheikh gave such a letter to deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and minister of the
concerned department Aditi Tatkare. lodha claimed, There are more than one lakh cases of love jihad in the
state. However, RTI has revealed that the committee has received only 402 complaints so far. mla Rais
Shaikh has demanded that the committee formed in the love Jihad case should be cancelled.
What has the SP mla said?
According to ABP Majha, the letter states that Interfaith marriage and Family Coordination Committee (State
Level) of government and non-government members has been appointed under the chairmanship of women and
Child Development. Your stand has always been that injustice will not be done to Muslim and minority
communities. However, it is clear from the small number of complaints received that the intention of the then
Women and Child Development minister Mangal Prabhat lodha in constituting the said committee was to create
misunderstanding about a particular person. Increasing religious discord in the community, deliberately harassing
the minority community and implementing wrong policies by the department. mla Rais Shaikh has said in his
letter that defaming a particular community does not suit a state with a progressive tradition like Maharashtra.
Had lodha given false information?
Also, the then women and Child Development minister Mangal Prabhat lodha, while speaking in the Assembly
on march 8, 2023, had said that there were 1 lakh cases of love Jihad and 3 thousand 693 cases of inter-religious
marriage in the state. This statement of the minister is baseless and without any justification. It has been
highlighted that it was given with the intention of defaming a particular community by creating misconceptions
about a social group. In this regard, I myself had sought information from the women and Child Development
Commissioner, pune regarding the complaints received by the Inter-Religious Marriage-Family Coordination
Committee.
