A man stole about S$31,000 (US$23,260) from three fellow passengers on a Scoot flight from vietnam to Singapore. Zhang Xiuqiang, a 52-year-old Chinese national, was arraigned in a district court on monday (Dec 18) on three counts of theft under the tokyo Convention for Offenses on Singapore-controlled aircraft. According to the chargesheet against him, the man, Zhang, stole from three people on Saturday, december 16, between 9.30am and 12.30pm while traveling in Scoot TR305. It is noted that the flight was traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Changi Airport.
Zhang allegedly stole about S$50 and 510 million Vietnamese dong (S$28,000) from a black hair sack bag belonging to a man named Tan Chin Quang. He also allegedly took US$1,000 and S$930 from an envelope in a gray bag belonging to Park Shell and S$600 and 3 million Vietnamese dong from a backpack belonging to Lim Janus.
Zhang was arrested following a raid on a passenger complaint. Currently remanded for trial, he will return to court on december 22 for trial. If convicted of theft, he can be jailed for up to three years, fined or both for a single charge.
