A law will also be made for lifts and escalators in Uttar Pradesh. chief minister Yogi Adityanath gave instructions to the officials in a high level meeting today (Monday). He said that a law should be made to ensure the safety of lifts and escalators installed in multi-storey buildings. The chief minister said that due to urbanization and spread of multi-storey buildings, the use of lifts and escalators is increasing. There are frequent complaints of improper operation and maintenance of lifts and escalators installed in crowded public places. He directed that it is necessary to ensure strict adherence to the prescribed procedures for manufacturing, quality, built-in safety features, installation, operation and maintenance of lifts and escalators.

The chief minister expressed regret over the absence of a law for lifts and escalators in the state. He cited the Lift Act in other provinces of the country. He expressed the need to implement the law for lifts and escalators in the state as soon as possible. chief minister Yogi said that registration should be made mandatory for every owner installing new lifts and escalators in private or public premises. The lifts and escalators already running will also be registered.

Make laws for lifts and escalators also

The chief minister ordered that Bureau of indian Standards standards will be followed in the construction of lifts and escalators. He said that compliance with relevant building codes and other necessary codes should also be ensured in the installation of lifts and escalators. For the safety of people in lifts, it should be made mandatory to install automatic escape devices so that in case of power supply or other failure, a person trapped inside the lift reaches the nearest floor and the lift door opens automatically.
