Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) proved to be transformative for the Sahariya tribe living in Mundra Khurd Gram panchayat of Guna district of the state. Sahariya families who used to live in dilapidated houses now have permanent houses. He painted his house blue. Ramkunwar Bai of Bhilkhedi Gram panchayat of Shajapur district faced many obstacles throughout her life due to poverty and disability. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin provided him support. Ramkunwar Bai tells that when her own permanent house was ready through the scheme, her husband Balaram jumped with joy. Never felt so happy before. His mud house was filled with smoke from the stove. Now the house is also permanent and LPG connection is also available. There is a toilet in the house and water is also available through pipe connection. Many women are overwhelmed to see their dream of housing fulfilled. The house is being allotted jointly in the name of husband and wife. This is a unique initiative for women empowerment.
The Gram Sabha certifies the validity of the list of beneficiaries. This helps only the needy people. Training programs for masons have been started for good quality housing. A survey is going on under Pradhan Mantri Janman Mission to provide benefits especially to the vulnerable tribal groups. Till now, houses of 64594 beneficiaries have been sanctioned and the first installment has been deposited in the accounts of 45520 beneficiaries.
