Congress leader Sanjay Nirupan had strongly criticized the shiv sena (UBT) president for fielding a candidate unilaterally by uddhav Thackeray. Sanjay Nirupam had raised questions on uddhav thackeray fielding a candidate in the North-West lok sabha constituency of Mumbai. But shiv sena has now fielded Amol Karthikar, who has been accused of Khichdi scam in mumbai Municipal Corporation. Amol Kirtikar is the son of shiv sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar. Sanjay Nirupam said that the congress party's ally is not in a position to win even a single seat in maharashtra without the support of his party. Earlier, uddhav thackeray had fielded candidates for 17 seats. shiv sena UBT has so far announced its candidates for 21 seats.
