SP mla made these allegations against the government…

Samajwadi party (SP) mla Raees Shaikh claimed that the maharashtra government is conducting 'mapping' of madrassas in the state during the holy month of Ramzan. Shaikh, mla from Bhiwandi in thane district, in a statement also asked the government why the community was not consulted or taken into confidence before carrying out such an exercise.

He said that on one hand, the election code of conduct is in force, while on the other hand, the education department, district council, and municipalities are conducting 'mapping' to collect information about Muslim and non-Muslim students studying in madrassas.

Sheikh said, “On one hand the government is implementing the Dr. zakir hussain Madrasa Modernization Scheme, on the other hand, it is also doing ‘mapping’ of madrasas. “In the holy month of Ramzan, the employees of the education department are harassing the madrassa operators for information.” He demanded the government to immediately stop this exercise during Ramadan and talk with the community on the matter.

Raees Sheikh is a member of the maharashtra Legislative assembly representing Bhiwandi east constituency. He has also been a Municipal Corporation Councilor and Group leader of the Samajwadi Party. He contested and won BMC elections from Govandi in 2012 and Nagpada in 2017. In the last election, Raees Shaikh won the Bhiwandi east seat by 45,133 votes. He defeated Shiv Sena's Rupesh Laxman Mhatre and Congress's Santosh Shetty.
